Spring (April – June)
The hikers' seasonFrom April, the Corsican maquis erupts in a botanical firework: pink heathers, white cistuses, wild lavender and arbutus carpet the hillsides in colour and fragrance. The air smells of honey, mountain roads gradually reopen and snow-capped summits contrast strikingly with completely empty beaches.
The GR20 — the legendary north-to-south traverse considered the most demanding long-distance trail in Europe — becomes hikeable from mid-May for the northern sections (Calenzana to Vizzavona). June is the sweet spot: snow gone, mountain refuges open but not packed. As for beaches, Palombaggia, Rondinara or Saleccia (reachable only by boat or 4x4 along a 20 km track) offer something extraordinarily rare in the Mediterranean: crystal-clear water with not a soul in sight.
Coastal temperatures ranging from 18 to 25 °C are perfect for hiking, cycling or exploring the perched villages of Castagniccia, the Balagne or the Alta Rocca. Cap Corse, often overlooked, is at its finest in spring: Patrimonio's vines are budding, the customs officers' coastal path winds along a wild shoreline in soft early-season light.
